Blue Jays Top Mariners in Extras
|
The Toronto Blue Jays downed the Seattle Mariners, 8-4, at Safeco Field. The Blue Jays were led by Elvis Andrus, who captured player of the game honors. He went 4 for 7 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The win was credited to Ken Giles in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Alex Wilson took the loss. The win puts the Blue Jays at 51-81, while the Mariners drop to 57-73.
It could have been a different outcome for Toronto, had it not been for Dixon Machado, the 27-year old second baseman . Machado contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the 12th inning to put Toronto up, 6-4.
"The name of the game is scoring runs," Machado said. "We did a good job of that today."
