Lehigh Valley Stops Beaty's Hit Streak Friday, May 31st, 2019 Late in the game, all eyes in NBT Bank Stadium were on Matt Beaty as he stepped into the batter box. His 25-game hitting streak was on the line, and he had a zero in the hit column on the day. Sadly for Beaty, it was not meant to be -- the zero would stay and the streak would end. If there was a silver lining for Beaty today, it was that his Syracuse Chiefs won the game anyway, stopping the Lehigh Valley IronPigs by the score of 4-2. "Winning took some of the disappointment out of it," Beaty told reporters in the clubhouse. "Looking back on it, it was a great experience. Not too many players can say they had a hit in 25 straight games. It's something I will always remember." In this current campaign Beaty is hitting at a .372 clip with 5 home runs and 28 RBIs. |
