Braun Powers Yankees to 10-6 Win
|
The New York Yankees beat the New York Mets, 10-6, at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees got a fine performance from left fielder Ryan Braun, who captured player of the game honors. He was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. The winner was Xavier Cedeno in relief. His record improves to 4-2. John Gant took the loss. New York now sits in 4th place in the American League East Division at 54-44.
Willie Calhoun had a big 2-run single for the Yankees in the bottom of the second inning. With New York leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from John Gant and stroked the single to center. It was his 86th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Yankees ahead, 4-1.
"My job is to go out and play as hard as I can for the Yankees," said Calhoun.
