Pirates Nip Reds, 5-4
|
Cincinnati shortstop Trea Turner was sensational. He hit 2 home runs, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Pittsburgh beat the Reds, 5-4. Turner was named the player of the game despite the loss. Patrick Weigel was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Seranthony Dominguez was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 6 of 6 save opportunities.
Jake Lamb aided the Pittsburgh cause with a 3-run home run in the top of the first. For the game, the third baseman was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Cincinnati manager Brad S.
The Reds, at 58-40, have lost 6 straight games.
