Fine Effort by Davis Not Enough in 12-7 Tigers Loss
The Detroit Tigers got a sterling performance from left fielder Khris Davis, but the Pirates still prevailed, 12-7. Davis was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He was 3-3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Steven Matz got the win, improving to 3-2. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 9 hits and 7 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 2. The Pirates, with just their 6th win so far in 2018, have yet to catch fire.

Carlos Gomez, who is a two-time All-Star, contributed to the Pittsburgh win with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the left fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 3 runs batted in.

"We came out aggressive," said Pirates manager Corey Wehr. "We came out swinging the bats."
